[Condylo-cephalic nail fixation for trochanteric fractures of the femur (author's transl)].

چکیده
Condylo-cephalic nailing which has been developed by Ender is described. Three elastic pins are inserted at the proximal part of the medial femoral condyle and passed through the femur across the fracture into the head of the femur. The operative procedure is very simple and not hazardous to elderly patients. A special advantage is early weight-bearing. One hundred and three patients with intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fracture were treated by this method. The average age was seventy-six years. Our own experiments have shown that this method can allow immediate weight-bearing.

The treatment of trochanteric fractures of the femur by the Ender method.
In 1966, Kuntscher2 introduced a condylo-cephalic intra-medullary nail, claiming more stable reduction with reduced blood loss and risk of infection. Unfortunately, technical difficulties due to the rigid nature of the rod, and, a high incidence of postoperative knee pain, limited its use. Ender and Simon-Weidner,3 and subsequently, Kuderna and Bohler4 described fixation of trochanteric fractur...
متن کاملTreatment of Unstable Trochanteric Femur Fractures: Proximal Femur Nail Versus Proximal Femur Locking Compression Plate.
Unstable trochanteric femur fractures are common fractures that are difficult to manage. We conducted a prospective study to compare functional outcomes and complications of 2 different implant designs, proximal femur nail (PFN) and proximal femur locking compression plate (PFLCP), used in internal fixation of unstable trochanteric femur fractures. On hospital admission, 48 patients with unstab...
متن کاملThe treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur with endovis nail.
BACKGROUND The incidence of fractures in the trochanteric area has risen with the increasing numbers of elderly persons with osteoporosis. The imperative goals of treatment are early mobilization by means of stable fixation using as minimally invasive a procedure as possible. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in intramedullary nailing, especially for unstable intertrochanteric fractures...
متن کاملLoad distribution between cephalic screws in a dual lag screw trochanteric nail
BACKGROUND It has been observed clinically that the Z-effect is a potential cause of failure of an intramedullary nail with two cephalic screws. It describes the migration behavior of the cephalic screws in the femoral head. The primary objective was to examine different cephalic screw configurations and test the load distribution between them as a function of their relative placement and their...
متن کاملComparison of nail-plate fixation and Ender's nailing for intertrochanteric fractures.
Two comparable groups of patients with fractures of the trochanteric region of the femur were studied. One hundred and sixty-five fractures had been fixed with conventional nail-plates and 132 with Ender's nails. Ender's nails gave superior results in the treatment of trochanteric fractures. The operation was quicker and less traumatic than that using conventional nail-plates and both the morta...
